HIST 5388: Public History - East Texas History

Use this guide to explore east Texas and local history resources as well as the study of public history.

Purpose

The SHSU Special Collections and University Archives maintains, preserves, and provides access to archival material documenting the history of SHSU and the surrounding area. We welcome all researchers to come and use our materials to conduct research.

Both the SHSU Special Collections, housed in the Thomason Room, and the University Archives are non-circulating collections.  All materials are library use only, but are available to both the university community and the general public in a supervised environment, with instruction for handling fragile materials when appropriate.

To contact SHSU Special Collections, please call 936-294-1619Call.
To contact the University Archives, please call 936-294-3699Call.

We look forward to working with you!

Archival Research -- Quick bit of advice!

Whether you are contacting an archivist for research help online through a web form, via telephone, or you are able to walk in the door of an archive and ask for guidance in person -- it is helpful for you to know a little bit about what is available out in the world of archives. The better you are able to frame your research question, the more the archivist will be able to supply you with answers in the form of books, manuscript collections, vertical files and other avenues to trace in pursuit of your research query. Research ahead of time and do not be afraid to ask for help -- archivists and librarians are here to help!
