E-readers, Tablets, and Library Ebooks

Learn how to read or download library ebooks on your e-reader, tablet, or other mobile device.

What You Need to Get Started

Before you can download a library ebook to read on your computer, you will need:

1. A desktop or laptop computer with an active Internet connection.

2. An Ebsco or ebrary account, if the book is on one of these platforms.* (Set up Ebsco account here; Set up ebrary account here.) EBL does not require a separate account to download.

4. A free Adobe ID and Adobe Digital Editions software downloaded to your computer

* Please note that these are free accounts, but you will only be able to access Ebsco or ebrary ebooks from the Newton Gresham Library if you are a current student, staff, or faculty member at Sam Houston State University.

Downloading: Step by Step

Steps to download a library ebook to a computer

 

 

  1. On a computer, log into Adobe Digital Editions* with your Adobe ID.
    Adobe Digital Editions is free ebook reading software that you will need downloaded on your computer.
    It can be downloaded from Adobe's website:  http://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html
     
  2. Find a book in a library database, such as EBSCO eBooks Collection or ebrary, and log into your personal account for that database.
     
  3. To read while on the Internet, click "eBook Full Text" in EBSCO eBooks, or just start reading in ebrary.
     
  4. To read on your computer while NOT on the Internet, locate and click the Download button; follow the instructions.
     
  5. The book will be downloaded into Adobe Digital Editions. Read away!
